Knowing your doctor matters!
I’m Dr. Shafferman, a naturopathic medical doctor.
•••
What you probably don’t know is that my Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) journey is what lead me to become a doctor.
•••

As I was completing my double major in undergrad I became more & more sick and like any 19 year old, I ignored it until I couldn’t any longer.
•••
I ended up losing 15 lbs in one week & my family had to drive the 6 hours to my school & 6 hours home to take care of me.
•••
I ended up in the hospital.
•••
I saw so many doctors, I had so many tests and I had absolutely ZERO answers.
•••
So ultimately it was decided my best choice was an exploratory surgery & colonoscopy... as much as I hated this idea, I just wanted the diarrhea & pain to stop.
•••
Guess what they found- nothing. So I was given the diagnosis of IBS.
•••
Then they sent me home with a few more scars than when I entered, but things finally started to improve because of how long it had been since I eaten anything.
•••
As soon as I started eating the same old things I had been eating forever, the pain & diarrhea resumed. But this time, I paid attention!
•••
So my journey continued. I ended up seeing a total of 13 doctors who could provide no relief.
•••
Finally I went to see an alternative doctor. He told me to clean up my diet, we started healing my gut, I started gaining weight & I learned to listen to my body.
•••
I remember being so frustrated that I was a relatively healthy 19 year old who ended up in the hospital & after all the imaging, scopes, and blood work I had everyone scratching their heads.
•••
So about a decade later- here I am! A naturopath who truly cares about your digestive health!
•••
I care about the FUNCTION of your digestive tract. I care about the FOOD you eat, the SYMPTOMS you have, how long you’ve felt the way you FEEL, etc!
•••
If you are in need of a digestive detective, I’m your girl!
•••
Wishing you a happy, healthy journey,
Dr. Shafferman
