Surprising results with healing the gut in autoimmune diseases.

Did you know that the gut is similar to our skin in that it is in contact with the outside world through what we eat and drink? There are many things the gut is responsible for which includes immune function.

The gut is typically very orderly but with leaky gut it can be more chaotic.

Leaky gut (intestinal permeability) is when the tight junctions between our cells in our gut are compromised and open up. When this happens, we can have immune dysregulation because things that our bodies would typically ignore such as food, may sound the alarm and create an immune response.

Symptoms of leaky gut can include:

  • Rashes

  • Headaches

  • Brain fog

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea

  • Mood imbalance

  • Fatigue

  • and many more

If this is continually happening, the immune system can spin out of control and we can recognize our own body cells as invaders and that is what autoimmune diseases are.

So, this begs the question- if we treat your leaky gut will your autoimmune disease improve? Yes! This study discusses both animal models and clinical evidence to support this idea. If you have autoimmunity or if you think you may have leaky gut and want to do your best to prevent autoimmunity, contact ISAIH Natural Medicine, I would love to work with you!
